How Mavuno sees the bigger picture.
Mavuno brings together four kinds of information and explains what they mean for the question you are asking. The pictures themselves are free and public. The care taken between the picture and your page is the part that matters.
Sources
What we bring together.
Satellite pictures show physical conditions. Rainfall records show whether a season was normal, wet or dry. Maps show distance, routes and markets. The business tells us what it does and where. Everything below is open and public, apart from what a business chooses to share.
| Source | Role in a pack | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Sentinel-2 satellite images | Free European satellite pictures that help us see changes in vegetation and land conditions over time. | Open data |
| Landsat 8/9 satellite images | Free American satellite pictures that let us look further back in time at the same places. | Open data |
| CHIRPS rainfall records | Rainfall estimates by area, used to show how wet or dry a season has been compared with normal. | Open data |
| Sentinel-1 radar (used selectively) | Radar sees through cloud. We use it where cloud hides an area for long periods. | Open data |
| Information from the business | Site locations, boundaries, suppliers and routes, shared with permission. | Provided by the business |
Basemaps on this site are rendered from OpenStreetMap data via CARTO tiles. Map geometry shown in demonstrations is synthetic.

What works today, and what is planned
We say plainly what exists today and what is still planned. Nothing here is automatic, live or self-learning, because it is not.
- Today: Evidence Packs prepared by our analysts for a defined place, using the sources above.
- Planned: repeat observation over time, compared against a dated starting picture.
- Planned: more sectors beyond the initial agribusiness and cold-chain focus.
Limits we state openly
- Satellites see through gaps in the cloud. Some places and seasons are poorly covered.
- Small, mixed or intercropped plots can be too fine to see clearly from space.
- Rainfall estimates cover an area, so they can differ from a gauge at one exact point.
- What we see is surface condition. It is not yield, tonnage, quality or ownership.
- Mavuno makes no automatic decisions and never presents an estimate as an observation.
Have a business question that depends on place?
Tell us the question and the place it concerns. We will say whether Mavuno can add useful evidence to it, and what it would not settle.
